Born in Montreal in 1957, Marie-France Brière obtained a Masters in Visual Arts from the Université du Québec à Montréal. Having obtained numerous grants from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and the Canada Council for the Arts, and recipient of the Louis Comtois Prize (Montreal) in 1996, Marie-France Brière has developed over the years a research practice based on sculpture. Her work demonstrates the characteristics of the materials, their capacity for transformation, for distortion, and for revelation in order to examine and understand the nature of the world.
