The Call — FAQ

May 1 July 2, 2026

AXENÉO7 makes THE CALL a common gateway to its programming. Five programs, five ways to engage with the centre and participate in its programming: Exhibition, PRAXIS, Autorésidences, Prémices and Collaboration.

Through THE CALL, the centre seeks to support initiatives that transform exhibitions, residencies, knowledge-sharing, and collaborative efforts into spaces for research, presence, and encounter. The centre invites artists, curators, collectives, groups, and organizations to propose initiatives, research projects, or initiatives that aim to engage with the centre, its spaces, its audiences, and the territories and communities it serves.

Proposals will be collected using a standard form. Individuals and organizations interested in applying may use the form to identify the program(s) that best align with their initiative. A single proposal may be submitted to more than one program if it appears to fit within multiple program frameworks.

To submit a complete application using our form, you will be asked to provide:

  • description of your artistic practice (1000 words max.)
  • your artistic resume
  • a description of your project and its intent
  • a selection of documentation of your work, in the form of images, links, videos and/or texts, compiled into a single PDF document.

Find more details about the programs here.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

The FAQ provides answers to some common questions and general inquiries.

The AXENÉO7 team is available via email to answer any other questions at: axeneo7@axeneo7.qc.ca.

In addition, AXENÉO7 will offer information sessions and application workshops (dates T.B.A.) during the submission period to assist interested individuals and organizations in selecting programs, understanding the common application form, and preparing their proposals.

AUTORÉSIDENCES

What does “situated research” refer to?

A situated research approach is one that unfolds in relation to a specific context and takes into account the realities, relationships, and conditions that influence its development.

How can a remote residency be carried out in dialogue with AXENÉO7?

The dialogue with the centre can take various forms: follow-up meetings, research discussions, critical feedback, assistance with documentation, or discussions on dissemination strategies. The framework remains flexible and adapts to the nature of the project.

Do the projects have to be limited to visual arts?

No. The Autorésidences program is open to projects from other disciplines or fields of research, including the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, anthropological studies, community-based practices, writing, and ecology. Eligibility is based on the project’s ability to engage with contemporary art, whether through its form, methodology, or mode of presentation.

Does the program require a specific work method?

No. The Autorésidences offer a flexible framework. The methods, formats, and modes of presentation can be tailored to the specific approach, provided that the project demonstrates a commitment to pushing research beyond its expected boundaries.

COLLABORATIONS :

Can collaborations involve non-artistic communities?

Yes. The program can connect artistic practices with community, educational, social, heritage, scientific, performing arts, musical, or other sectors, provided the collaboration engages with contemporary art and the centre's activities.

Can organizations apply on their own?

Yes, but the proposals must be linked to specific artistic practices (artists, curators, etc.).

EXHIBITIONS :

Can we submit a project that includes performance, sound, video, or public installations?

Yes. Projects can take various forms, provided they are intended for exhibition or presentation within the centre’s spaces. Proposals that include installations, performances, sound installations, video, publications, or public activities must specify their technical requirements and presentation conditions.

Can the project change between submission and presentation?

Yes. The program recognizes that some projects evolve over the course of research, production, or engagement with the spaces. However, the overall objectives must be sufficiently clear at the time of submission to allow for an evaluation of the proposal.

Can the project be carried out collectively?

Yes. Group projects are eligible, whether they are led by a group of artists, a collective, a curator, or a collaboration among several people. The proposal must specify the role of each participant and how the project is to be developed collectively.

PRAXIS :

Do projects have to be submitted by people from the region?

No. Proposals may be submitted by artists from here or elsewhere. AXENÉO7 aims to foster encounters between artistic practices rooted in different regions, contexts, and communities, while encouraging a thoughtful dialogue with the centre, its team, and its local context.

Does the project have to be fully completed before it can be submitted?

No. Projects currently in development, ongoing research, and proposals that are intended to evolve in response to the centre’s spaces are eligible. The key is that the initiative can be implemented at the centre and generate a sense of presence, transmission, or outreach.

What types of formats are suggested?

Performative, participatory, installation-based, interdisciplinary, or experimental formats are encouraged. Projects may take the form of an exhibition, a presentation, a workshop, an activation, public research, an evolving installation, or a series of activities.

How many spaces can be activated?

Depending on the project’s needs and the centre’s schedule, one to three rooms may be made available. The use of the spaces will be discussed with the team to ensure consistency between the artistic proposal, production requirements, and audience reception.

PRÉMICES

What is implied when using the terms “emerging” or “developing practice”?

The term “emerging” does not necessarily refer to age, but rather to a stage in one’s career. It may refer to someone who is developing a practice in the visual arts or art curation, who has not yet presented a solo exhibition or curatorial project in a professional context of comparable scope, or who wishes to further develop an emergent approach.

Is Prémices only for students or recent graduates?

No. The program is not limited to students or recent graduates. It is intended more broadly for individuals whose practice is still developing, whether they are self-taught, graduates, in a career transition, returning to a practice, or just starting on a professional path in the visual arts or in curatorial work.

Can I submit a project if I have professional experience in another field?

Yes, someone may have significant experience in another field while still developing their career in the visual arts. In such cases, Prémices can support the initial stages of professional development or exhibition opportunities in this specific context.

Does the project have to be fully completed at the time of submission?

No. Projects may still be in development. The important thing is that the proposal be clear enough to convey the approach, the intentions, and how the project might be implemented within the AXENÉO7 spaces.
