- Extramural Exhibition
First presented at AXENÉO7 as part of vert soleil green sun, Sarah Chouinard-Poirier and Kinga Michalska’s exhibition Pologne-en-Québec continues its circulation through moving earth, an initiative led by the artist-run centres AXENÉO7 and L’Écart, with support from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec’s program supporting structuring initiatives for the circulation of contemporary artworks.
Between multiple committees, a theater project and pickles made by using a traditional polish recipe, the film questions the limits of our revolutionary ambitions, the contradictions in our attempts at inclusion, the points of friction that emerge from intercultural encounters and the patterns that hinder the realization of ideals.
— Excerpt from a text by Gabrielle Izaguirré-Falardeau for Écart
Kinga Michalska is a queer Polish filmmaker and visual artist based in Tiohtià:ke/Mooniyang/Montréal. Their practice focuses on the margins of history and those who make it. Working with photography, film, and video installation, they explore shared cultural spaces. They hold an MFA in Photography from Concordia University in Montréal, and their work has been presented at numerous festivals and exhibitions across Canada, South Korea, and Europe. Their first feature-length documentary, BEDROCK (2025), premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival and won the award for Best Polish Film at Millennium Docs Against Gravity.
Sarah Chouinard-Poirier is an artist based in Tiohtià:ke/Mooniyang/Montréal whose undisciplined practice spans performance, film, and writing. They devise scenarios—often performative and sometimes collaborative—rooted in streams of consciousness, vernacular histories, theatricality, and intertextuality, through which connections between public policy, class, gender, and dispossession are revealed. Above all, they are interested in strategies for seeking revenge and building community. Their work has been presented in exhibition centres, museums, artist-run centres, performance and live art festivals, conferences, drinking establishments, and various self-managed and hybrid spaces across Québec, Mexico, and Poland.
