Autorésidences

Autorésidences

Each Autorésidence must incorporate a way to convey the results of the research conducted: a logbook, a publication, or any other form of dissemination relevant to the project.

Autorésidences is a remote artist residency program initiated by AXENÉO7 in 2020 in response to the pandemic. In its latest iteration, the program supports independent projects and artist-led research.

By moving beyond geographic, cultural, and disciplinary boundaries, it offers a flexible framework for dialogue and collaboration with the centre. Autorésidences allows artists to dedicate time to practices that respond to the contexts and situations they encounter, letting the conditions of their «fieldwork» influence, shape, and form their methods and positions. Without predetermining the path or the outcome, each Autorésidence culminates in a public presentation or another form of dissemination, adapted to the project.

CONDITIONS

Projects accepted as part of the Autorésidences program must articulate their research objectives and propose an experimental approach developed in relation to a specific context, situation, region, or field of inquiry.

Particular attention will be given to proposals that challenge conventional frameworks of creation, production, or dissemination, and demonstrate a commitment to pushing research beyond its standard forms. Projects may take place outside the centre’s premises, with no requirement for a local presence, provided they foster context-specific research that is attentive to the contexts, realities, and relationships that shape them.

The Autorésidences welcomes projects in visual arts, as well as proposals from other disciplines, provided that their form, method, or mode of presentation can contribute to a dialogue with contemporary art.

The program values the knowledge resulting from artistic practice as a form of thought in its own right, capable of generating its own insights, research methods, and modes of transmission.

REMUNERATION :

For an Autorésidence, the residency stipend varies depending on the number of people involved, going up to a maximum of $3,000 per project:

  • One (1) person: 1 500 $
  • Two (2) people: 1 500 $ per person, for a total stipend of 3 000 $
  • Three (3) people or more: a maximum of $3,000 per project, to be divided among the participants based on the group’s composition.

Depending on the formats of dissemination agreed upon completion of the Autorésidences, additional fees may be provided, particularly for a public presentation, a performance, an outreach activity, a workshop, a publication, or any other form of dissemination. Expenses related to the project’s implementation may also be discussed with the selected artists, depending on available resources and the scope of the project.
