Le Merle vol.7 no.1

Publication

This publication was produced as part of the Autoresidencies, a residency program initiated by AXENÉO7 from May 2020. Conducted remotely, this program supported the research and development of several artistic projects led by visual artists during the pandemic.

Readers and friends,

As part of the Autorésidences programming launched during the pandemic by AXENÉO7, Le Merle vol.7 no.1 was assembled in the rhizome suburb of the Outaouais, based on the question: how not to go round in circles in powerlessness? In the studio, in the living room, in the shed, on the patio, on the 12-lane highway or canoeing on the Kichi Sibi, Power in withdrawal bears witness to spaces and experiences where ways of breaking through the feeling of powerlessness are invented, where ways of doing things collectively and ways of telling stories are developed.

This issue features contributions from Sarah Chênevert-Beaudoin, Anykrystel Coppet, Dalie Giroux, Aimée Lalonde, Fait Maison, Amélie-Anne Mailhot, Émilie Monnet, Le Patio, Isabelle Pauwels and Marc-Alexandre Reinhardt. In addition, the dossier FAIRE POÉSIE / POEM-MAKING, curated by Simon Brown and Maude S. Pilon, offers a survey in the form of exchanges between poets on ways of making poetry, including contributions from EJ Kneifel, Trynne Delaney, Lux and névé dumas.

Le Merle
Le Merle, cahiers sur les mots et les gestes, invites us to move between worlds and to relay ways of transforming others, elsewhere. It is a micro-publishing project led by François Lemieux, with past and present contributions from invaluable allies, including Mirna Abian Boyajian, Edith Brunette, Erik Bordeleau, Dalie Giroux, Heather Davis, Bernard Schütze, Simon Brown, Suzanne Beth, and Anne Lardeux.

François Lemieux
My artistic activities combine practice, editing, and research in the form of installations, documents, performances, or situations that foster collective reflection on notions of value, representation, community, and relationships to norms. Since 2010, as a visual artist, I have been publishing Le Merle, an independent art edition. Through exchange and collaboration, this project brings together works and texts that lie between art and politics. It's worth noting that without advertising or administrative structure, this project is not eligible for any government funding or subsidies.
